1. Assign Social Criticism project.

SOCIAL CRITICISM IN LITERATURE

You have a project in English IV as you examine social commentary and criticism in literature. You are to choose two authors, at least one of them British, who expressed critical views of society.

You have the option to either compare them if they have similar views, or contrast them if their views are different from each other. Since both will have written criticisms, it is more likely that their views will be similar.

Your paper will be handwritten, and there is no length guideline. However, you must include the following:

1.      two authors, one of them British,

2.      backgrounds of each of the authors,

3.      backgrounds on the social problems they are addressing,

4.      two comparisons or two contrasts concerning their criticisms,

5.      titles of two works that address the issue(s) from each,

6.      quotes from each of the works,

7.      comments from you about the authors and the issues (this can be agreement or disagreement),

8.      introduction and conclusion, and

9.      footnotes or endnotes.

I will be available to advise and/or criticize your paper as you go, and you will have some class time to work on this.

It is due on Monday, October 13.
