1. Tell three things about "The Dinner Party" which classify it as a short story.
2. Choose one of the topics below and write a half-page essay.
     a. Why is the setting so important in "The Dinner Party"?
     b. What do you think was said after the snake left?
     c. What do you think would have happened if the American had not said anything?
3. A young girl and a colonel were having a discussion/argument. Choose one side and show why your side is correct. Prove it two ways:
     a. by evidence in the story, and
     b. by evidence from a true-life incident you find online. Be sure to cite your source.

These are to be written on paper.

These are due by the end of class today.

An essay above will not be judged by the side you take, but it will be judged largely by how well you prove your point.

Make sure that I get what you are saying.

Spelling, grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, etc., will not be graded on these papers except for the following: Every sentence must begin with a capital letter and end with proper punctuation. You will have points deducted for failure to do those, but most of the grade will come from what you say and how well you defend it.
