EPITAPHS
An epitaph is a commemorative inscription on a tomb or mortuary monument written to praise the deceased.
Examples:
Come blooming youths, as you pass by ,
And on these lines do cast an eye.
As you are now, so once was I;
As I am now, so must you be;
Prepare for death and follow me.
Here lies Lester Moore.
Four slugs
From a forty-four.
No Les
No More.
Golfer Bob is out of luck.
It seems he simply didn’t duck.
His hearing aid worked no more,
And he didn’t hear when they yelled, “Fore!”
The little ball was never seen,
But Bob had finally hit the green.
No sympathy that he’s not alive;
His playing partners marked him bogey
five.
Our golf course is out on 144;
The cemetery just next door.
Bob played golf courses just for fun,
But now he’s in a hole in one.2. Write a rhyming epitaph for yourself. Put it on a tombstone/headstone. We will decorate the classroom door with them.
Example 1:
Death put poor Arthur
Under this stone.
All things considered,
He was bad to the Bone.
Example 2:
Arthur Bone is dead,
Along with his criminal gang.,
His painter wife had once said
One day her Art would hang.
Example 3:
Beneath this stone
Wrapped in his shroud,
Now lies A. Bone--
No dogs allowed.
3. PRIZE FOR BEST EPITAPH IN CLASS!
